Inspiration

Check out these images of the first ever underwater sculpture park, located in Grenada, West Indies. They were created by english artist Jason de Caires Taylor. He sculpted these with the intention of creating an artificial reef for marine life to populate...which seems to be working quite well from what these photos show. It's like they're being decorated by living organisms. They are actually attracting different kinds of planktons and corals...should be interesting to see what they look like in a couple of years..

It's that time of year when everyone seems to be vacationing somewhere...so this is for those of us that are just just too busy to go away somewhere fun. If you can't actually go away, at least you can look at some pretty skylines and dream of next years vacation...or start planning your trip now!

How do these paintings make you feel? We feel very melancholic when we look at these paintings by Maurizio Bongiovanni. These paintings make you feel every different emotion one can have. We want to know how you feel? Are they inspiring and uplifting? Or are they sad and melancholic?

It is hard to imagine a simple piece of white paper being transformed into such a creation, but for Richard Sweeney it is a totally conceivable idea.

Born in Huddersfield, England, Sweeney attended Batley School of Art and Design, specializing is three demensional design. His design philosophy describes maintaining an experimental, hands-on approach, all the while, utilizing every-day materials to discover their hidden and individual sculptural forms.

Check out this art by artist Yoshi Sodeoka, he does video art, both videos and stills...we think they're pretty awesome...no idea how it's done, but still cool. The videos have a creepy modern psychadelic vibe, which is definitely intriguing to watch. Check it out....enjoy!

Lauren Diciccio recreated these images found in newspapers with yarns and cotton muslin.

"As news-gathering departs from paper form and is conveyed instead through the television and internet, the newspaper becomes a nostaligic and old-fashioned object. I describe the beauty of the ritual experience of newspaper-reading by describing the paper as a tactile and fragile object in the language of craft. The pieces in this series are entire issues of The New York Times encased in hand-embroidered cotton muslin. I select a photograph from the paper; usually a strong image suggestive of power, leadership or communication; and embroider the image onto the fabric, applying colors in a painterly way and layering line and thread. Portions of the image remain as outline and threads tangle and unravel from the fabric." - Lauren Diciccio

Here at the Juma studio we're always looking for new inspiration, however random it may be. We found these amazing photos of newly discovered species in previously unexplored waters of the Atlantic ocean. We think they're pretty fascinating! They're somehow beautiful in an oddly disturbing kind of way. It's strange to think how many things there may be down there that haven't yet been discovered...

Le Creative Sweatshop is a conceptual design agency that was established in 2009 by French design duo Mathieu Missiaen aka Ndeur and Julien Morin. With projects ranging from designing origami shoes and accessories, such as this "ponk" paper bracelet, to collaborations and paper instalations, the pair has truly redefined  DYI culture. Their brilliant work is trully inspiring and shows a deep understanding of modern mediums as well as the use of space and volume. Visit their website to check out more of their work.

My recent trip to Ikea has left me with something to be desired. That something being beautiful, functional, and original design. While I may love that store for their extremely cheap snacks, and adorable fake-living rooms, when you realize that you and three of your friends all own the exact same coffee table, you tend to see the downside of the swedish furniture giant.

Furniture design is definitely not something I pretend to know anything about, but when I saw these awesome creations by London design, Martino Gamper, I couldn't help but picture them looking great in my teeny tiny living room. Pulled together out of discarded old chairs around London, Gamber has managed to take nothing, and definitely turns it into something. Adding to the fact that these chairs were all created in 100 days, it certainly leaves my 20$ computer chair, falling a little flat.
